It’s been three months… why?

So, not too long ago I decided to start blogging. Why? because I wanted to do it for fun. I quickly put it off for a while after being busy with work and school. In my last post I talked about the graphic design job I had at a weird place and I generally wasn’t happy there. Fast forward 3 months to now, I finally quit, started back on my own business, touched up on my photography skills, and started Crossfit.  I can say I am much happier now! I have time and freedom to do what I want to do. I finish school for UX/UI design next month in August and I am praying I find a better job and better pay! I have a lot going on and I am excited to blog about it! OH, and did I mention I started a YOUTUBE channel?! It’s all coming together.

3 Things That Keep Me Happy at Work

I’m going to be honest… Even though I am working in my much-desired field (graphic design), it’s hard to be happy at work sometimes. The place I work at is a new company and it is CHAOTIC. As a designer, I have to wear multiple hats. That includes product development, photography, account manager, and JEEZ sometimes even a chemist (not kidding!). I don’t know how much longer I can take it! But anyways, it’s just crazy and sometimes I get so stressed that I forget to enjoy the little things. I realized that it’s important to keep some things around that still make me feel human. Here are 3 things that made my workday today:

#1 Snacks

Starting this week, we are going to have a paletero man (ice cream man) come every Monday to sell us ice cream. He is such a nice older man and he is Mexican too so I enjoy talking to him in Spanish. I ran into him (not literally) driving back from lunch and told him I had a lot of coworkers back inside the building that would want ice cream too! Long story short, they made arrangements for him to come visit us once a week! It’s really cool and I would be happy to help him out and make him some extra money. He only charges about $1.25 for a popsicle like this. It was spicy… next week I think I’ll get strawberry.

#2 Cubicle Decor

I have a pretty good sized cubicle, not going to complain! I do hate having a cluttered desk though, so I try to keep my decor to a minimum. This is my little humble corner that I am proud of because I put it together for around $13. I got the pencil holder for free, it was lying around the office somewhere. It actually has a little pink bear head on it but you can’t see it in the picture. I got the little plastic drawers at the dollar store. My favorite thing on my whole desk is this glass frame I found at Target for $5! I also got the little plastic succulents with the pot for $3 each at Target. To pull it all together, I have my little calendar print-out that I designed myself hanging on the side. You can find it at my Etsy shop here: 2017 Desk Calendar Botanical Printable

#3 Cute Outfits

#OOTD Details:
Cardigan: Marshalls ($15)
Top: JcPenny ($5)
Pants: Tommy Hilfiger ($20 at Burlington)
Shoes: Steve Madden ($20 sale at Macy’s)
Purse: Coach (gift)
(I’m quite the bargain shopper when it comes to clothes!)

We all need a confidence booster sometimes to make us feel better. My head could be a mess but hey, at least I’ll look great. Since I don’t have to meet with clients or anything, I am allowed to dress a little bit more laid-back. However, today I decided I wanted to wear heels. These are one of my favorite pair of heels because they are actually comfortable. I don’t wear them often because I have trouble matching them with a lot of things. And for the rest of my outfit, oh my gosh, you guys will notice that I wear black a lot. I’m trying not to this year. So far it’s not working.

Looking at it, everyday is a struggle to wakeup and go to work. Someday I won’t have to do the 9-5 but as for now, I am trying to make the best of it. What are some things at your job that cheer you guys up? I would love to hear from you and if you have some suggestions!

Why I started blogging.

DESKtop blogging pineapple2

Well hellloooooo there! Nice to meet you!

My name is Melissa (Mel for nickname) and I am 24 going on 25 as I write this. I’m new. Not necessarily new to blogging, but new to making this commitment to blog. I first got introduced to blogging during a photography course in college. I didn’t take it seriously because I thought writing about my life and adventures was such a chore.

Well fast-forward 5 years later and now I feel like I have to write and put my thoughts out there. Maybe someone will read it, maybe no one will. Either way, I am having fun doing this and it’s a way that I can be myself. Right now I feel free. I can write whatever the heck I want, and no one is going to stop me. It’s liberating.

What I hope to accomplish…

I hope I can just have an awesome place where I can go back and look at all the cool stuff I have done and look back on my writing. I want to improve my writing skills. I want to develop my own voice. I want to find people who like what I like. I want to make cool connections. I want to write about things I learn!

My blog will be mostly about stuff I do (I’m a graphic designer for a living), products I love, shopping, fashion, lifestyle, DIYs, art, etc.

So, stay tuned if you would like to be a part of my adventures. I’d love for you to stay.
